Tesla delivers 31,423 vehicles in China in Jul, exports 32,862 from Shanghai plant

In the Chinese BEV market, Tesla's share was 7.46 percent in July, down from 16.53 percent in June, but up from 2.34 percent a year earlier.

Tesla's Shanghai factory, which produces the Model 3 and Model Y, has a pattern to produce cars for export in the first half of the quarter and for the local market in the second half, the company previously said.

On August 3, the CPCA released data showing that Tesla sold 64,285 China-made vehicles in July, including those exported as well as those delivered in China, the lowest of the year.

Including exports, Model 3 sales in July were 20,324 and Model Y sales were 43,961, according to the CPCA's data today.

China's retail sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in July were 641,000 units, including 421,000 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and 220,000 plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), according to the CPCA.

This means that Tesla's share of the Chinese NEV market was 4.9 percent in July, down from 11.16 percent in June, but up from 1.74 percent a year earlier.

In January-July, Tesla delivered 294,105 vehicles in China, up 48.86 percent year-on-year, according to data monitored by CnEVPost.

In the January-July period, Tesla's Shanghai factory exported 182,434 vehicles, up 87.72 percent year-on-year.

On March 1, Reuters reported that Tesla was working to retool its Shanghai assembly plant for an revamped version of the Model 3, codenamed Highland by Tesla.

The Highland version of the Model 3 is expected to go into production in Shanghai in September, the Reuters report said, citing a person familiar with the matter.

On July 7, local media outlet Jiemian reported that tuning of the production line for the revamped Model 3 was almost complete, with prototypes then being tested on the factory's roads over the weekend.
