China's retail sales of NEVs down 3.6% MoM to 641,000 units in Jul, CPCA data show
BEVs sold 421,000 units at retail in July, accounting for 65.7 percent of all NEV retail sales.
Plug-in hybrid (PHEV) retail sales were a record 220,000 units in July, contributing 34.3 percent of all NEV retail sales, up 77.0 percent year-on-year and up 1.3 percent from June.
China's all passenger vehicles retailed at 1.775 million units in July, down 2.3 percent year-on-year and down 6.3 percent from June.
The penetration rate of NEVs at retail in China was 36.1 percent in July, up 9.3 percentage points from 26.8 percent a year earlier and up from 35.1 percent in June.
The retail penetration rate of NEVs of local brands was 59.7 percent, compared with 20.3 percent for luxury brands and 5.1 percent for mainstream joint venture brands, according to the CPCA.
From January to July, retail sales of passenger NEVs in China were 3.725 million units, up 36.3 percent year-on-year.
Wholesale sales of China's passenger NEVs in July were 737,000 units, up 30.7 percent year-on-year and down 3.1 percent from June.
This means that the penetration rate of NEVs in wholesale was 35.7 percent in July, up 9.3 percentage points from 26.4 percent a year earlier and up from 34.0 percent in June.
The penetration rate of NEVs in wholesale in July was 52 percent for local Chinese brands, 28.9 percent for luxury brands and 5.8 percent for mainstream joint venture brands.
In the January-July period, wholesale sales of Chinese passenger NEVs were 4.279 million units, up 41.2 percent year-on-year.
In July, China exported 88,000 units of passenger NEVs, of which BEVs accounted for 92 percent. This was up 80 percent year-on-year, up 26 percent from June, and contributed 27 percent of all passenger vehicle exports.
