Xpeng to report Q2 earnings on Aug 18
Xpeng delivered 23,205 vehicles in the second quarter, exceeding the upper end of the company's guidance range of 21,000 to 22,000 units.
Xpeng will report its unaudited financial results for the second quarter on Friday, August 18, before the US market opens, the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker announced Tuesday after posting July's delivery figures.
The already-released figures show that Xpeng delivered 23,205 vehicles in the second quarter, exceeding the upper end of the company's guidance range of 21,000 to 22,000 units.
Second-quarter deliveries were up 27.29 percent from 18,230 vehicles in the first quarter, but down 32.59 percent from 34,422 vehicles in the same period last year.
Xpeng's previous revenue guidance for the second quarter was between RMB 4.5 billion ($630 million) and RMB 4.7 billion, a year-on-year decrease of about 36.8 percent to 39.5 percent.
Xpeng's monthly deliveries have been weak in most months of the past year, hit by model switching, fierce competition and the withdrawal of state subsidies.
The company's deliveries fell to 5,218 units in January, though it has seen continued improvement since then.
Xpeng delivered 11,008 vehicles in July, up 27.70 percent from 8,620 in June, its sixth sequential increase in monthly deliveries.
The Xpeng G6 -- which was launched on June 29 and began deliveries on July 10 -- contributed significant deliveries of more than 3,900 units in July.
Strong sales of the G6 drove a surge in showroom visits, which in turn increased customer enthusiasm for other Xpeng models and the advanced smart technologies they come with, the company said on August 1.
Xpeng management will hold an earnings call on August 18 at 8:00 am US Eastern time (8:00 pm Beijing time), where a large number of questions are expected to be answered, given that the company has had several significant changes over the past month.
Xpeng is still struggling to ramp up production capacity for the G6, and long wait times risk causing potential customers to ditch the model.
At the beginning of last month, all of the G6's lower-priced Pro versions had estimated wait times of 10 weeks, while the higher-priced Max versions all had wait times of 12 weeks.
CnEVPost's latest check shows that the estimated wait time for the Pro version has now been shortened to six weeks, while the Max version remains at 12 weeks.
On July 26, Volkswagen and Xpeng announced that the German carmaker would invest about $700 million in Xpeng and would co-develop EVs.
On August 2, Xpeng confirmed that its vice president of autonomous driving Wu Xinzhou would be leaving the company after rumors swirled, but said the company had been preparing for the transition for nearly a year and that its goals for the XNGP remained unchanged.
