The 2 in this string of numbers refers to dual motors, the 3 to triple locks, the 1 to a new platform, and the 6 to a June release, CnEVPost learned at the time.

However, in an image posted by Fang Cheng Bao on June 21, the number on the car has changed to "2318," suggesting that the model's release will be pushed back to August from the previously planned June.

The Leopard 5 will target a price range of 400,000 yuan ($55,710) to 600,000 yuan, further diversifying the price range covered by BYD's models.

BYD, which currently targets the sub-RMB 300,000 mass market for its models, is entering the premium segment through sub-brands including Denza, Fang Cheng Bao and Yangwang.

On July 3, Denza launched the Denza N7, the second model released after the brand's equity restructuring and its first SUV. The new Denza brand's first model is the D9 MPV.

The Denza N7 targets the market where the Tesla Model Y is located with a starting price of RMB 301,800 ($41,680).

Yangwang began pre-sales of the U8 on April 18, the first day of the Shanghai auto show, offering the Premium Edition and Off-road Master Edition, both with a pre-sale price of RMB 1.098 million.

The U8 Premium Edition is expected to hit the market in August, with deliveries expected to begin in September, Yangwang said on June 19.
