Restrictions on commercialization of autonomous driving in China
Shanghai (ZXZC)- At 2018 Global Autonomous Driving Forum hosted by ZXZC, several executives from different companies talked about the issues which should be urgently addressed to commercialize the autonomous driving business in China.
Simon Yang, president of Aptiv Asia-Pacific, thought that first of all, the industry and the government should promote the implementation of related regulations. Laws and regulations are crucial to ensure autonomous vehicles’ road testing in real-scenarios. Besides, it is also of great significance to make a systematic integration of funds and resources flooding into the market. Currently, great attention has been put on single vehicle model, but the matching platform and supportive intelligent transportation system also need rapid improvement.
Roy Huang, highly automated driving system product manager at Chassis Control Systems Bosch China, held the same opinion as Simon Yang in terms of the importance of regulations. Relevant laws and regulations should be made in advance to give more time for customers’ acceptance. The complexity of China’s transportation, to Roy, should also be taken seriously for the commercialization of autonomous vehicles. But artificial intelligence technology can do a lot. For example, vehicle can recognize different road signs in different cities via deep learning.
Jianmin Gu, China Chief Technical Officer at Valeo, the bottleneck lies in the suppliers which master core technologies and further investment should be key to support the development of autonomous driving industry. Another problem is the cost, the common restriction on the application of all new technologies. Gu pointed out that some technologies can be mass produced now, but still has poor application because of high cost. Some survey found that China market is the most willing to embrace new technology. But Gu wondered whether the survey objects know the new technology is at high cost.
2018 Global Autonomous Driving Forum is held to solve problems and improve the application of autonomous technology. Focusing on autonomous technology, the forum aims to facilitate the interaction between industry experts, innovation enterprises’ leaders, technology start-up stars and to set up a cooperation forum for the innovation and the development in auto industry.
