China Jun NEV retail sales up 14.66% MoM to 665,000 units

PHEVs sold a record 217,000 units at retail in June, contributing 32.6 percent of NEV retail sales and up 100.2 percent year-on-year.

Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) saw a record 217,000 retail sales in June, contributing 32.6 percent of all NEV retail sales. PHEV sales were up 100.2 percent year-on-year and up 13.1 percent from May.

China's all passenger vehicles retail sales stood at 1.894 million units in June, down 2.6 percent year-on-year but up 8.7 percent from May.

The penetration rate of NEVs at retail in China was 35.1 percent in June, up 7.8 percentage points from 27.3 percent a year earlier and up from 33.3 percent in May.

The retail penetration of NEVs by local brands was 58.8 percent, while that of luxury brands was 30.9 percent and that of mainstream joint venture brands was 3.7 percent, according to the CPCA.

From January to June, retail sales of passenger NEVs in China amounted to 3.086 million units, up 37.3 percent year-on-year.

Wholesale sales of China's passenger NEVs in June were a record 761,000 units, up 33.4 percent year-on-year and up 12.1 percent from May.

This means that the penetration rate of NEVs in wholesale was 34 percent in June, up 7.9 percentage points from 26.1 percent a year earlier and up from 33.7 percent in May.

The penetration rate of NEVs in June was 51.5 percent for local Chinese brands, 34.2 percent for luxury brands and 4.2 percent for mainstream joint venture brands.

In the January-June period, wholesale sales of passenger NEVs in China were 3.544 million units, up 43.7 percent year-on-year.

In June, China exported 70,000 units of passenger NEVs, of which BEVs accounted for 89 percent. This was up 185.3 percent year-on-year, down 27.8 percent from May, and contributed 24 percent of all passenger vehicle exports.

Looking ahead, the CPCA said a year-on-year decline in China's auto sales in July this year would be normal due to last year's high base.
