Analysis of China’s SUV sales in December
Shanghai (ZXZC)- According to data released by the China Passenger Car Association, China's PV sales decreased 0.12% year on year in December, 2017. The PV's annual sales of 2017 increased 2.36% from a year earlier in China. Last month, 1,168,348 units of SUVs were sold in China, with a year-on-year growth of 8.08%. Meanwhile, the annual sales of SUVs rose 13.91% year-on-year to 10,297,218 units in 2017. This is the first time that China's SUV annual sales exceed 10 millions units.
In December, the sales of self-owned SUV brands reached 748,628 units with a year-on-year growth of 10.3%, accounting for 64.1% of total December SUVs’ sales. It is noteworthy that Haval’s sales, ranking second among self-owned SUV brands, slumped 34.96% year on year and Chery, also among the top 10 brands, reached a December sales volume of 24,379 units, falling 14.44% from the previous year. Besides, some self-owned brands, such as Geely, Baojun and Zotye, saw an apparent sales growth in December last year.
With regard to overseas brands, 153,547 units from Japanese SUV brands were sold last month, increasing 15.4% year on year, while suffering a month-on-month decrease. German SUV brands’ sales were 91,544 units in December, jumping 31.5% from a year earlier. Especially, Skoda’s December sales skyrocketed 225.06% year on year. American SUV brands reached a sales volume of 65,319 units in December, decreasing 17.6% compared with the previous year. The December sales of Korean SUV brands fell 16.3% year on year to 53,888 units. In addition, the sales of French SUV brands were down 16.7% year on year to 25,689 units last month. It is worth mentioning that Peugeot's sales in December slumped 31.59% from a year earlier. Especially Peugeot 2008, the small-sized SUV model of Peugeot brand, only reached a sales volume of 435 units, slumping 87.27% year on year.
Among the top 10 SUV auto enterprises, Zoyte entered the top 5 list last month. The total December sales of Zoyte's SUVs shot up by 108.11% year on year. 14,411 units of Zoyte T700 were sold last month. Besides, the other two new models, Zoyte T300 and Damai X7, all delivered around 17,000 units last month.
For Great Wall Motor, two SUV models of WEY all reached a sales volume of over 10,000 units last month. Except Haval H9, the other old models all suffered a year-on-year decrease in December. Different from Great Wall Motor, three old SUV models of Geely Auto saw an obvious growth last month. Lynk&Co’s December sales exceeded 6,000 units. Generally, the total Geely’s SUV sales skyrocketed 128.14% year on year.
In addition, SAIC-GM-Wuling ranked third, surpassing Changan Auto in December. Changan Auto's SUV December sales jumped 24.0% from a year earlier and SAIC-VW’s SUV monthly sales were up 64.4% year on year in December. Beijing Hyundai sold 45,903 SUVs in December, slightly decreasing 4.2% from a year earlier, which ranked 7th on the top 10 list.
Among the top 10 SUV models in December, Haval H6’s December sales were 55,126 units, dropping 31.5% year on year and slightly up 1.9% month on month. Baojun 510’s monthly sales increased 8.39% month on month to 54,050 units, closely behind Haval H6. 29,584 units of Tiguan were sold in December with a year-on-year growth of 18.5%. After being modified, Envision entered the top 5 last month with a sales volume of 22,792 units, while decreasing 28.2% year on year. Besides, Changan CS75 descended to the 9th place. It reached a sales volume of 21,604 units with a year-on-year growth of 7.2%.
