Shanghai (ZXZC)- The 51th International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is going to kick off on January 9, 2018 in Las Vegas. Over 4,000 companies are arriving there for this annual splendid tech fest. A great number of China’s enterprises will attend this CES to reveal new products and hopefully provide the most fashionable experience of science and technology at the trade fair.
Below are just a small part of Chinese participants who are going to show off products and technologies relevant to autonomous driving vehicle area at the show.
Baidu
As a frequenter of CES, Baidu has announced that it will showcase its cutting-edge AI technologies and products at CES, including autonomous driving platform Apollo and conversational AI platform DuerOS.
It is reported that at the show, Baidu will unveil Apollo 2.0, the latest version of the Apollo open autonomous driving platform. Since Apollo platform opened in April 2017, it has formed a partnership with many enterprises globally. Baidu stated that Apollo 2.0 provides a comprehensive, secure and reliable solution that enables vehicles to drive autonomously on simple urban roads.
At 2018 CES, in cooperation with its partners, Baidu is also set to launch a new AI hardware based on DuerOS, China’s advanced conversational AI platform.
BYTON
BYTON, establishing its North American headquarter in Silicon Valley in December last year, released its first concept vehicle at CES on January 8 (Beijing time). Visitors can see the exterior, configuration details and performance of the new vehicle.
The production versions based on this new consept vehicle will be put into production in BYTON’s Nanjing plant in the end of 2019 and may be sold at lowest price of around RMB 300 thousand ($45 thousand).
As to the technologies of BYTON's products, the gigantic dashboard touchscreen, diversified intelligent interactive modes, personalized services and facial recognition vehicle system may become attractions. Meanwhile, BYTON is about to announce its crucial partners at CES, including the partners in autonomous driving area.
Horizon Robotics
Horizon Robotics, a China’s startup of embedded artificial intelligence, is dedicated to providing integrated and open embedded artificial intelligence solutions of high performance, low power and low cost.
On December 20, 2017, Horizon Robotics launched two types of embedded AI visual chips, Journey 1.0 processor and Sunrise 1.0 processor. Specifically, Journey 1.0 processer is designed for intelligent driving vehicles, which is compatible with high-performance L2 ADAS system and Sunrise 1.0 processor for intelligent cameras can be applied in many practical scenarios, such as intelligent safeguard systems and intelligent cities, etc.
Reportedly, the above two types of chips will be exhibited at 2018 CES within a booth of around 90 square meters.
RoboSense
RoboSense (brand of Suteng Innovation Technology Co., Ltd), one of China’s LiDAR solution provider, had unveiled the temporal research and development progress of MEMS (micro-electromechanical system)-based and OPA (optical phased array)-based solid-state LiDAR in October 2017.
RS-LiDAR-M1 Pre, a Lidar model RoboSense will showcase at CES this month, is made on basis of MEMS. It is able to be embedded into any vehicle with advantages of mass production, low cost and high definition, etc.
Jimu Intelligent
Jimu Intelligent, a China’s vision-based ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) solution provider, is going to announce several ADAS-based industry solutions and driver monitoring system on its CES trip.
The ADAS-based industry solutions consist of ADAS-based active safety system and background management system which can warn vehicle collisions, recognize traffic signals and analyze drivers' behaviors, etc.
The driver monitoring system is designed to reduce traffic accidents by closely monitoring a driver’s status and operation through in-vehicle cameras.
Meanwhile, Jimu Intelligent will also unveil a new factory-installed ADAS that is an automotive-grade hardware platform based on deep-learning.
Minieye
The Chinese startup technology firm Minieye is devoted to researching and developing technologies of vehicle visual perception and relevant products. It insists that a better driving assistance system will help avoid danger from drivers’ misjudgments. Currently, Minieye’s self-developed ADAS has already achieved mass production.
At 2018 CES, Minieye will display its latest ADAS products and reportedly, announce the progress of its fund raising.
Xpeng Motor
Xpeng Motor, a Chinese EV startups, will also participate in CES this year. According to Xpeng Motor, at this show, it will showcase Xpeng 2.0 production models, a compact pure electric SUV, and plans to put Xpeng 2.0 to market for sale in spring of 2018. The new vehicle will be upgraded in aspects of exterior, battery range, driving experience and autonomous driving.
TuSimple
TuSimple is working to create the advanced commercially viable autonomous truck driving platform with a foundation in computer vision, algorithms, mapping, and AI. At CES this month, Hou Xiaodi, CTO of TuSimple, and his team will demonstrate the L4 autonomous driving North America prototype truck and other research achievements of autonomous driving technologies. Besides, TuSimple will announce its partnership with North American truck manufacturers in the near future.
