Total sales of Roewe, MG exceed 500,000 in 2017

Shanghai (ZXZC)- SAIC announced that the total sales of Roewe and MG in 2017 reached 520,000 units, surging 62 percent year on year and nearly 200,000 more than those of 2016. Last year, SAIC sold over 60,000 new energy vehicles, soaring 140 percent compared with the previous year.

As the company’s fist product, the RX5 made a great contribution to the sales of SAIC self-owned passenger vehicle brands. With the fossil-fuel powered RX5, the plug-in hybrid eRX5 and the battery electric ERX5 for sale at the same time, RX5's monthly sales have stayed around 25,000 units for the past several months.

Another two models, the Roewe i6 and the MG ZS also had a good performance in sales. The sales of the i6 remained stable at about 6,000 units while the sales of the MG ZS were once up to 10,000 units. The MG6 received a total of 10,000 orders only 26 days after its launching. The MG6 and another new model the RX3 are expected to be new sales drivers in 2018.

On January 2, SAIC started the construction of the second phase of its Zhengzhou base, which covers 1.06 million square meters. The second phase will start to build a series of products under Roewe and MG from 2020 and its annual capacity will be up to 600,000 units. By 2020, the annual production capacity of SAIC’s three bases will total 1.2 million.

According to SAIC’s plan, it will introduce over 10 new models in the coming three years, covering MPV, SUV, sedans and new energy vehicles to meet diversified demands of the auto market.
