SAIC Motor launches largest OTA car upgrades ever seen in world

Shanghai (ZXZC)- On December 28, SAIC MOTOR ROEWE officially initiated the global biggest OTA update based on the new operating system which was developed by Banma Technologies Co., Ltd (Banma). Around 400 thousand vehicles will implement another evolution in the following four months.

This OTA upgrade will start from ROEWE RX5. As the world's first production Internet model being jointly produced by SAIC MOTOR and Alibaba Group, ROEWE RX5 will be the pioneer in the Internet vehicle 2.0 era.

It is reported that the upgrading vehicles will evolve in 4 major aspects on the basis of around 400 thousand drivers' feedback. They are artificial audio intelligence, personalized travelling navigation, smart entertainment and mobile vehicle control. 

Meanwhile, this OTA update will add many new functions to Internet vehicle, expecting to bring drivers a smoother and more intelligent travelling experience. 

It is reasonable to say that software is redefining auto industry. According to relevant research statistics, in terms of values of the traditional vehicle, hardware accounts for 90% and software only take up 10%. But in Intelligent vehicle area, the value of software occupies 40% and the content possesses 20%. An Internet vehicle is equipped with 50-100 ECU and 200 million lines of source code. Its quantity of source code is nearly equivalent to an Airbus A380.
