In addition to the Nio (NYSE: NIO) EC7, local Chinese media today also revealed spy photos of what is allegedly the Nio ES5.
Auto Home today shared two spy photos of what is suspected to be the ES5, saying that the model is currently being tested in icy conditions.
The car is currently tightly wrapped in camouflage, keeping design details from being seen, though its headlight design looks similar to the Nio ES7, the report said.
Earlier today, Auto Home shared three spy shots of what is purported to be the Nio EC7. And the latest spy shots of the so-called ES5 complicate speculation about which models Nio will launch at this weekend's Nio Day 2022 event.
Nio Day 2022 will be held on December 24 in Hefei, Anhui province, home of two Nio factories, with the launch starting at 19:00 Beijing time and lasting until 21:30.
On December 12, Nio co-founder and president Qin Lihong said that Nio will launch two models at Nio Day 2022, one of which is the ES8 based on the NT 2.0 platform and the other is a very stylish new model.
Qin did not provide more details at the time, but that new model is likely to be the Nio EC7 coupe SUV, given that the company stopped showing the wait time for the EC6 coupe SUV last week.
With the latest spy photos of what is suspected to be the ES5 emerging, the possibility of Nio launching that model this weekend instead of the EC7 cannot be ruled out.
It is worth noting that spy photos of the Nio ES5 started circulating two months ago.
On October 21, auto blogger @飞要说车 shared a picture of Nio's new SUV undergoing road tests, saying that the Nio ES5 is coming soon and that it will be the Nio version of the BMW X3, or the SUV version of the ET5.
On November 23, in a WeChat group where CnEVPost is in, a user shared a video of one showing a model suspected to be the Nio ET5 shooting brake version. It could be the model rumored to be the EC5.
On November 25, auto blogger @水水兄 shared two spy photos on Xchuxing's community, claiming they were of the ET5 shooting brake version.
"It's already obvious in these pictures that the styling is a bit of a small SUV," the blogger said, adding that the model's interior is said to bring new surprises.
