Nio's supercharging network completes initial coverage of highways in Jilin, northeast China
Nio today put 10 supercharging stations into operation in Jilin, bringing its network of supercharging stations in the northeastern Chinese province to 35.
Nio today completed its initial coverage of highways in the northeastern Chinese province of Jilin with the opening of 10 supercharging stations as part of its Power North program.
The new supercharging stations, all located in highway service areas, allow Nio to complete coverage of its highway supercharging network centered in Changchun, the capital of Jilin.
To date, Nio has 35 supercharging stations in Jilin, connecting nine cities in the province, according to information the company announced today on its mobile app.
Nio unveiled its Power North initiative on the first day of the Shanghai auto show on April 19, 2021, to enhance the electric vehicle (EV) driving experience of customers in northern China.
The colder temperatures in northern China are a major barrier to local residents choosing EVs and make automakers less willing to expand the coverage of charging facilities there.
Here are some images of Jilin that Nio shared on its app.
Nio plans to expand its charging infrastructure coverage under Power North to eight provinces in northern China including Heilongjiang, Qinghai, Ningxia, Gansu, Inner Mongolia, Liaoning, Jilin and Xinjiang.
The company said it plans to have 100 battery swap stations, 120 mobile charging vehicles, 500 supercharging stations, more than 2,000 supercharging posts and more than 10,000 destination charging posts in the eight provinces within three years when it announced the plan last year.
At the completion of these goals, there will be an average of one battery swap station or supercharging station for every 100 kilometers of highway in these areas, an average of one such facility for every 3 square kilometers within urban areas, and 95 percent coverage of charging resources in scenic areas of 4A or higher, Nio said at the time.
From July 1, 2021 to December 31, 2024, all Nio vehicles in these eight provinces will be eligible for 1,000 kWh of free charging per year, according to its previously announced program.
Nio also has seven battery swap stations in Jilin, and its charging map has access to 3,418 third-party charging piles.
In China, Nio currently has 1,235 battery swap stations, 330 of which are located along highways. It also has 2,140 charging stations offering 12,395 supercharging piles.
