Shanghai (ZXZC)- On December 25, Great Wall Motor Co.,Ltd (Great Wall) signed an agreement with Chongqing municipal government and Yongchuan district government to open a new manufacturing base in Yongchuan District of Chongqing City. 

Great Wall Motor headquaters in Baoding City of Hebei Province and group's main manufacturing bases lie in Heibei Province and Tianjin City. It is no hard to see that the plan of building a new manufacturing base in central and western regions of China is Great Wall's strategic layout for future progress. Interestingly, Chongqing is the birthplace of Changan Automobile Group (Changan) and also has Changan's main production base.

Currently, Great Wall has three vehicle manufacturing bases in Tianjin City, Baoding City and Xushui District. Baoding Base's annual production capacity reaches 400,000 units. The annual production capacity of Tianjin base is around 400,000 units and it has already initiated the production of C50, Haval 6 and Haval 2. The first phase of project in Xushui base produces high-end vehicles of Great Wall, mainly including Haval 8 and Haval 9. Its early production capacity is around 200,000 units per year. It is reported that once the second phase of project in Xushui base goes into operation, the total annual production capacity of all three manufacturing bases will reach 1.25 million units.

According to relevant reports, the annual production capacity of this new base may reach 250,000 units.

Previously, Great Wall had considered teaming up with BMW’s MINI to jointly produce new energy vehicles of MINI brand in China. It even began to select proper sites as manufacturing bases. Therefore, there are predictions that the new base in Chongqing City is possibly used to produce new energy vehicles of Great Wall.
