BYD's position as No. 2 global power battery maker taken by LG Energy Solution in Sept
BYD's global share was higher than LG Energy Solution's in both July and August.
LG Energy Solution regained its position as the world's second-largest power battery manufacturer in September, after seeing that position occupied by BYD in July and August.
In September, LG Energy Solution installed 8.8 GWh of power batteries, giving it a 16.0 percent market share, surpassing BYD's 13.3 percent to rank second globally, according to a report released Tuesday by Seoul-based SNE Research.
BYD's power battery installed base in September was 7.3 GWh, according to the report.
The largest Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) company previously released data showing it installed about 8.610 GWh of power batteries and energy storage batteries in September, up 104.80 percent from 4.204 GWh a year earlier and up 13.99 percent from 7.553 GWh in August.
In July, BYD's installed power battery volume was 6.4 GWh and its market share reached 16.2 percent, surpassing LG Energy Solution's 11 percent for the first time to rank second in the world, according to a previous report by SNE Research.
In August, BYD's share was 14.3 percent, continuing to outpace LG Energy Solution's 11 percent.
CATL's installed power battery volume in September was 19.9 GWh, continuing to rank first in the world with a 36.3 percent share, according to the latest report by SNE Research.
Japan's Panasonic ranked fourth with 6.5 percent share, South Korea's SK On ranked fifth with 5.1 percent share, and Samsung SDI ranked sixth with 4.4 percent share.
China's CALB, Gotion High-tech, Sunwoda and Svolt Energy ranked seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth respectively, with shares of 3.7 percent, 2.9 percent, 1.8 percent and 1.3 percent respectively in September.
The total global EV battery installed base in September was 54.7 GWh, up 61.2 percent year-on-year, according to the report.
From January to September, CATL and LG Energy Solution maintained the first and second positions, with shares of 35.1 percent and 14.1 percent, respectively.
BYD was third, Panasonic fourth and SK On fifth in January-September, with their market shares of 12.8 percent, 8.1 percent and 6.2 percent, respectively.
CALB, Gotion High-tech, Sunwoda, and Svolt Energy ranked 7th-10th in January-September with shares of 4.0 percent, 2.9 percent, 1.7 percent, and 1.3 percent, respectively.
