CATL has entered into a partnership with US-based energy storage technology platform and solutions provider FlexGen to supply the latter with 10 GWh of energy storage products over a three-year period, the Chinese power battery giant announced in a post on its WeChat account today.

FlexGen designs and integrates storage solutions and the software platform that is enabling today's energy transition, according to a description on the US startup's website.

CATL will supply FlexGen with EnerC, a containerized liquid-cooled energy storage product that can withstand a wide range of weather extremes and keep the system running safely and reliably for 20 years, the power battery giant said.

With its highly integrated liquid-cooled system design, the EnerC can achieve an energy density of 259.7 kWh/m2, nearly twice as high as traditional air-cooled systems, CATL said.

Powered by FlexGen's HybridOS energy management system platform, CATL's energy storage system will provide advanced, reliable energy for utilities, competitive power markets, and municipal projects, according to the article.

The HybridOS platform currently supports high-performance energy storage systems in Texas, California and throughout North America.

FlexGen was previously appointed as an authorized service provider for CATL to provide maintenance and optimization services for its battery energy storage systems. The two have now worked together on more than 2.5 GWh of energy storage system projects, according to CATL.

The deepened cooperation and latest supply agreement with FlexGen will help CATL supply critical equipment for North American energy storage projects and accelerate its growth in the North American market, the company said.

CATL's products are already widely used in large and important energy storage projects around the world, including three projects totaling more than 2.1 GWh at Southern California Edison and more than 500 MWh of commercial energy storage projects in operation and under construction in Texas, according to the company.

CATL is the largest power battery manufacturer in China, with a 46.79 percent market share in August, according to data released earlier this month by the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance.
