SAIC-GM-Wuling on Thursday made the 2023 Baojun KiWi EV official, with one version featuring drone maker DJI's intelligent driving system, the first time the system has been used in a production vehicle.
The 2023 KiWi EV is available in three versions, with two regular versions starting at 87,800 yuan ($12,520) and 93,800 yuan, and another DJI version starting at 102,800 yuan.
The model is a minicar with a length, width and height of 2,894 mm, 1,655 mm and 1,595 mm, respectively, and a wheelbase of 2,020 mm.
It is equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor. The regular versions have a maximum motor power of 40 kW, a motor torque of 150Nm and a top speed of 105km/h.
The DJI version has a motor with a maximum power of 50 kW, a motor torque of 150Nm and a top speed of 115km/h.
The battery capacity of all three models is 31.7 kWh. The NEDC range of the two regular versions is 305 km, and the DJI version is 301 km.
In DC fast charging mode, the 2023 KiWi EV takes one hour to charge from 30 percent to 80 percent.
The model comes standard with features including ESC (Electronic Stability Controller), ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) and Auto Hold.
Its DJI version is equipped with the Lingxi intelligent driving system, which has more than 10 more sensing components than the regular versions, including a front-view binocular camera, 1 millimeter-wave radar, and 12 ultrasonic radars.
Lingxi is a system jointly created by Wuling and DJI, utilizing DJI's technical advantages in the field of binocular cameras and based on the latter's accumulation of algorithms in the field of vision perception and experience in drone vision perception systems.
Smart driving is not a technology that is out of reach, but a travel experience that everyone can have, DJI said in an article Thursday.
The smart driving system relies on system design and hardware and software optimization to achieve good basic ADAS functionality without relying on external data sources and high-cost sensors, DJI said.
The system enables vehicles to achieve intelligent obstacle avoidance, adaptive cruise control, advanced lane keeping and automatic lane changing for any category of obstacles, according to DJI.
SAIC-GM-Wuling is a joint venture between SAIC Group, General Motors and Liuzhou Wuling Automobile, headquartered in Liuzhou, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southwestern China.
It sells vehicles built on the GSEV (Global Small Electric Vehicle) architecture in China, including the Mini EV, KiWi EV, and Nano EV, mostly for less than RMB 100,000.
DJI announced its automotive business, DJI Automotive, in April 2021 and said it has been doing business in the automotive parts sector for five years.
