The launch schedule for Xpeng Motors' (NYSE: XPEV, HKG: 9868) highly anticipated new SUV, the G9, has finally been set, after the model was unveiled in November last year.

The launch of the Xpeng G9 is now moving forward as scheduled, with it set to begin taking pre-orders in August and officially launch in September, the company's chairman and CEO He said on Weibo today, adding that deliveries of the model will begin soon after its launch.

"I am confident in this flagship product of Xpeng, which will be the best SUV within RMB 500,000 ($74,550)," he said.

The Xpeng G9 is a large five-seat smart luxury SUV that is nearly 4.9 meters long and has a wheelbase of nearly 3 meters, which is just the right size for most people, he said.

The model has a chassis tuned by a team of top German engineers, giving the handling a premium feel comparable to the Porsche Cayenne and its quietness comparable to the GLS Maybach, said Mr. He.

The Xpeng G9 is equipped with an intelligent dual-chamber air suspension that can anticipate road conditions in advance and actively adjust the suspension through the pre-sensing hardware and the pre-setting capability of high precision maps, he said.

"It's no exaggeration to say that we have achieved a re-evolution of air suspension in the G9 that overturns industry perceptions," he said.

As Xpeng has emphasized many times before, Mr. He again highlighted the Xpeng G9's supercharging performance on the 800V high-voltage platform.

The Xpeng G9 has a range of over 700 kilometers and is equipped with an 800V high-voltage supercharging platform, and the company will also gradually lay out its 800V/480kW supercharging network during the year, he said.

The model can get 200 km range in 5 minutes of charging time, starting with the G9, the speed of energy replenishment of electric vehicles comes to a new level, he said.

"To give an inaccurate example, it's like charging efficiency crossed from 2G to 5G era at once," He said.

Xpeng G9 also has the company's full-stack self-researched XPilot intelligent assisted driving system, equipped with two LiDARs. Supported by the computing power of two Orin chips, the system will be able to truly achieve full-scene intelligent assisted driving from start to finish, he said.

Xpeng unveiled the G9 SUV, its fourth model, at the Guangzhou auto show on November 19 last year.

Xpeng said the G9 is the company's first vehicle designed directly for the international market and meets both Chinese and international standards in terms of vehicle safety.

The company briefly described the model as being based on an 800V high-voltage SiC platform, with a range of more than 200 kilometers on a five-minute charge. It uses two Nvidia DRIVE Orin chips with a total computing power of 508 TOPS.

Xpeng did not announce more information at last year's brief launch event, saying that its details would be announced at the Beijing auto show.

However, the Beijing auto show, originally scheduled for late April, was postponed due to the Covid outbreak, and a new date has yet to be set.

Earlier this month, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released the latest batch of models that will be allowed to be sold for comment, and the Xpeng G9 was included.
