Shanghai (ZXZC)- Chongqing Science and Technology Commission said that the first domestic whole-stage intelligent-connected autonomous vehicle testing demonstration zone will be built in Chongqing in the year 2019 with an area of 2.67 million square meters.

Different from traditional vehicles, intelligent-connected vehicles should test environmental adaptability, communication reliability and information security between vehicles, vehicles and roads, vehicles and people in closed and open traffic environment, which will not be realized under traditional auto testing technology and conditions. Therefore, it is urgent to build an intelligent internet-connected auto testing zone.

According to introduction, a simulated urban testing area covering 273,000 square meters has been built in Chongqing during phase one. Another comprehensive testing zone with an area of 2.33 million square meters will also be built during phase two to test intelligent-connected vehicles’ relative performances under closed “urban traffic environment” and “comprehensive traffic environment”. An open road testing zone covering urban cities, mountain zones, highways, tunnels and bridges is also planned to be built in 2019 in Chongqing Liangjiang New District and Yubei District. The demonstration testing zone will not only test vehicles’ performances but also test performances of communication infrastructure and road equipment.

Currently, 4G and LTE-V communication infrastructure is built in the testing zone, which will be updated to 5G communication infrastructure. By the year 2019, Chongqing will build the first domestic whole-phase intelligent-connected auto testing zone covering 90% of road scenes in Western China and 85% of traffic scenes across the nation.
