The Nio ES7 is sized between the ES6 and ES8, according to a regulatory filing that also shows details of the model's exterior, wheels and more.

Prior to Nio's (NYSE: NIO, HKG: 9866) planned announcement of the ES7 at the end of this month, a regulatory filing revealed information on the new SUV's specifications.

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on Thursday released the latest batch of models that will be allowed to be sold in a catalog for public comment, in which the Nio ES7 is included.

The public can submit feedback between May 13-19, though in general, the final version will rarely change.

On the Nio ES7 page, details of the model's exterior, wheels, calipers, and logo designs are shown.

The appearance of the Nio ES7 is consistent with previously leaked spy photos, and the biggest change from Nio's existing SUV is the addition of a LiDAR module similar to the one on the roof of the ET7 and ET5 sedans.

The length, width and height of the Nio ES7 are 4,912 mm, 1,987 mm and 1,720 mm respectively, and the wheelbase is 2,960 mm, according to the information.

For comparison, the Nio ES6 has a length, width and height of 4,850 mm, 1,965 mm, 1,758/1,731 mm and a wheelbase of 2,900 mm, while the Nio ES8 has a length, width and height of 5,022 mm, 1,962 mm and 1,756 mm and a wheelbase of 3,010 mm.

The model's overall mass includes four types: 2,400 kg, 2,381 kg, 2,380 kg and 2,361 kg, which may mean that it may be offered in four version options.

The motors for the model are supplied by Nio's subsidiary XPT (Nanjing) E-Powertrain Technology, with two motors of 180 kW and 300 kW respectively.

The MIIT page does not provide more information about the model's power, but mentions that it has a top speed of 200 km/h.

The model supports battery swap, as do all current Nio models, and the battery cell supplier is Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (CATL, SHE: 300750), according to the MIIT's website page.

On February 15, Nio co-founder and president Qin Lihong said the company would release the ES7, its first SUV on the NT 2.0 platform, in April, with deliveries scheduled to begin within the year.

But with the Covid outbreak in several regions of China, the Beijing auto show, originally planned for the end of April, was postponed and a large number of new product launches by car companies were postponed. On March 30, Qin said the Nio ES7 would be unveiled at the end of May.

It is worth noting, however, that Nio's global headquarters in Shanghai has been in a phased lockdown since March 28, and travel restrictions have not been lifted so far, so whether the Nio ES7 will be unveiled at the end of this month as planned remains unknown.

The model is the previously rumored model codenamed Gemini, which was previously misunderstood to be a new brand, but is actually a new model, Qin said.

The model is aimed at competing with the BMW X5L, which will be released this year, according to Qin.
