The Glovis Splendor vehicle carrier with 4,767 Tesla vehicles departed from Shanghai's Nangang terminal to the Port of Koper in Slovenia.

Tesla's (NASDAQ: TSLA) Shanghai plant saw zero exports in April due to local Covid controls, and now the plant is finally seeing its first exports since resuming production.

On May 11, the Glovis Splendor vehicle carrier with 4,767 Tesla electric vehicles (EVs) departed from Shanghai's Nangang terminal to the Port of Koper in Slovenia, according to a report by local news outlet Knews today.

These are the first EVs to be exported from Tesla Giga Shanghai since production resumed on April 19, the report said. The plant is on the first whitelist of companies to resume production in Shanghai.

Shanghai is China's largest auto import and export center, accounting for about 70 percent of the country's foreign auto trade, according to the report.

To help companies speed up deliveries, local customs are continuously optimizing their work patterns to ensure the normal operation of auto exports from Nangang terminal, the report said.

From January to April this year, Nangang terminal saw a total of 177 berthing vessels and completed import and export of 191,000 units of roll-on/roll-off car throughput, according to the report.

Tesla's Shanghai plant stopped production when the city entered a phased lockdown from March 28 and officially resumed production on April 19.

On May 6, Reuters cited an internal memo saying Tesla was targeting two shifts at its Shanghai plant from May 16 to bring plant output back to pre-lockdown levels in the city.

On May 10, the latest Reuters report said Tesla halted production at its Shanghai plant again on Monday due to supply problems.

Tesla China produced 10,757 vehicles in April, with wholesale sales of 1,512, according to data released yesterday by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

Tesla's Shanghai plant did not export any vehicles in April, according to the CPCA.
