Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) is recalling yet another batch of vehicles in China, less than a month after the last one.

Starting April 29, Tesla is recalling a total of 14,684 imported and China-made Model 3 Performance electric vehicles with production dates between January 12, 2019 and March 25, 2022, according to China's State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) website today.

This includes 1,850 imported Model 3 Performance vehicles, as well as 12,834 locally manufactured vehicles.

Due to software reasons, the vehicles in the recall display only speed values in the speed area of the center touch display in track mode, missing speed units (KM/H), according to the SAMR's announcement.

When the vehicle is driven in track mode, the situation may affect the driver's correct understanding of the speed information, and in extreme cases may increase the risk of a collision, posing a safety hazard.

Tesla will upgrade the recalled vehicles to 2022.12 or subsequent versions of the software through OTA technology, free of charge. The upgraded vehicle will display speed units (KM/H) in track mode, and users can complete the software upgrade without visiting a store.

For vehicles that cannot be recalled through the OTA technology, Tesla will contact the relevant users to upgrade the software for free to eliminate safety hazards.

Tesla last recalled vehicles in China on April 7, when it announced a recall of a total of 127,785 imported and China-made Model 3 vehicles with production dates between January 11, 2019 and January 25, 2022.

The rear motor inverter power semiconductor components in the vehicles covered by the last recall may have minor manufacturing differences, some of which may cause the rear inverter to malfunction after a period of use, causing the inverter to fail to control current properly.

If this fault occurs when the vehicle is in park, it will cause the vehicle to fail to start. And if this fault occurs in the vehicle driving state, will lead to the vehicle to lose driving power, in extreme cases may increase the risk of vehicle collision, there are safety risks, according to the SAMR announcement at the time.

For the problem, Tesla will also upgrade the motor control software through OTA technology for the vehicles in the recall area free of charge.

For vehicles that cannot be recalled via OTA, Tesla will upgrade the motor control software for the vehicles to closely monitor the vehicle's rear motor inverter and promptly replace the rear inverter with a related fault at no charge.

Tesla sold 65,814 China-made vehicles in March, including 26,024 Model 3s, and 39,730 Model Ys, according to data released earlier this month by the China Passenger Car Association.
