It has been some time since Nio last announced the progress of the construction of the battery swap station network, with Covid control measures causing travel restrictions in many parts of China.

On April 14, the battery swap network covering the highways in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area metropolitan region was officially opened, Nio (NYSE: NIO, HKG: 9866) announced today.

The battery swap network is centered in Guangzhou and Shenzhen and radiates to several cities including Zhuhai, Dongguan and Zhongshan.

Nio has 31 battery swap stations along the highways, covering G15 Shenyang-Haikou Expressway, G4 Beijing-Hong Kong & Macao Expressway, G94 Pearl River Delta Ring Expressway and G94 Pearl River Delta Ring Expressway.

This will further meet the intercity travel needs of users in the Greater Bay Area and allow them to experience diverse cultures and landscapes, Nio said.

As of April 14, Nio has 893 battery swap stations in China, 237 of which are located along expressways, according to data monitored by CnEVPost.

Nio also has 734 supercharging stations in China offering 4,092 charging piles, and 685 destination charging stations offering 3,892 charging piles.

With strict travel restrictions imposed in several areas of China due to the new Covid pandemic outbreak, Nio has slowed down on the construction of battery swap stations recently, adding only 9 battery swap stations so far this month.

At the Nio Day 2021 event held on December 18 last year, in addition to unveiling the new sedan ET5, Nio said it planned to have more than 1,300 battery swap stations, more than 6,000 supercharging piles and more than 10,000 destination charging piles by the end of 2022.

Nio also said at the time that by the end of 2025, it would have more than 4,000 battery swap stations worldwide, including 1,000 in overseas markets.

From 2022 to 2025, Nio will add 600 battery swap stations per year in the Chinese market, it previously said.
