There was an explosion at the site and firefighters tried to extinguish the fire, but the whole car was still burned to scrap, according to Jiemian, another local media outlet.

In response, Xpeng said that on the night of March 28, Mr. He's 2019 Xpeng G3 was involved in a fire accident in Longhua District, Shenzhen, and no one was injured, according to Jiemian.

Xpeng will fully cooperate with relevant departments to investigate the cause of the incident, continue to follow up on the results and assist customers with related matters, the report said.

Although fuel car fire incidents also happen, electric vehicle (EV) fires are especially in the public eye given that EVs are a new species.

Deliveries of the G3i began in September last year and since then Xpeng has referred to the G3 and G3i figures collectively as the G3 series when publishing monthly delivery figures.
