AITO, built by Huawei and Seres, unveils official pricing for M5

As deliveries are about to begin, AITO, the electric vehicle brand jointly created by Huawei and Seres, a brand owned by Chongqing Sokon, has announced the official pricing for its first model, the Wenjie M5.

As it did when pre-sales began late last year, the M5 is offered in three versions with a starting price of RMB 249,800 ($39,560), according to information released by AITO today.

The retail prices for the three versions are:

The standard rear-wheel-drive version starts at RMB 249,800.

The four-wheel-drive performance version starts at RMB 279,800.

The four-wheel-drive flagship version is priced at RMB 319,800.

These prices are RMB 200 lower than the pre-sale prices offered when the model was announced on December 23rd last year.

It is worth noting that the prices of the first two versions are post-subsidy prices and the third version is not eligible for China's state subsidies.

Under current policy, new energy vehicles (NEVs) priced above RMB 300,000 are not eligible for purchase subsidies, except for models that support battery swap.

China's purchase subsidies for NEVs will not be renewed when they expire at the end of this year, meaning that consumers who purchase such vehicles next year will not receive any state subsidies.

Huawei is offering a home charger installation service package for M5 consumers that includes a 7 kW or 11 kW charger and 40 meters of cable for RMB 8,000, according to AITO.

The Wenjie M5 is an SUV with extended-range technology, similar to Li Auto's Li ONE.

It is positioned as a mid-to-high-end smart luxury mid-size SUV, built by a team including Huawei's consumer business with Seres.

The model will achieve volume deliveries in March to fulfill a promise to customers, the Shanghai Securities News said on February 15, citing sources at Seres.

The Wenjie M5 is equipped with the Huawei DriveONE drive system, which includes a 1.5T four-cylinder range extender and a combination of asynchronous AC and permanent magnet synchronous motors.

It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds for the four-wheel-drive flagship version and 4.8 seconds for the four-wheel-drive performance model.

The Wenjie M5 is equipped with a 40-kWh battery pack, and its range extender delivers 173 kWh when the vehicle is fully fueled, Huawei previously said.
