BYD to unveil new variants of its flagship Han sedan
BYD's fuel economy-focused Han DM-i, and performance-focused Han DM-p models will soon be available for pre-order.
BYD's flagship sedan Han currently includes EV and DM models, with the former being an all-electric model and the latter a plug-in hybrid. Now, BYD will offer new variants of the Han DM.
Han DM-i and Han DM-p will soon be available for pre-order, BYD said on Weibo today.
The Chinese largest new energy vehicle (NEV) maker said the models will use "run-through Chinese knot LED taillights". It also posted a teaser image showing some of the details of the Han DM-i's rear end.
In BYD's product lineup, the vehicles are available in EV, DM and DM-i versions, depending on the form of power.
The EV stands for pure electric, while the DM and DM-i versions are both hybrid versions, except that the latter focuses more on fuel economy.
BYD had previously offered the Tang DM-p model, which has more power than the DM model, but none of the models shown on its official website currently have this variant.
BYD didn't provide any more information on Weibo, but according to a report today by automotive website Xchuxing, the company will announce several new variants of the Han model on March 7, including the Han DM-i, Han DM-p and Han EV performance versions, as well as a limited-edition model.
Early last month, the Han DM-i and Han EV models were added to the product list of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
The Han DM-i is powered by a 145kW permanent magnet synchronous motor and a 1.5T engine with a maximum power of 96kW.
The dual-motor version of the Han EV is equipped with a 180kW front motor and a 200kW rear motor.
The Han DM-i has a maximum range of 206km and the EV model has a maximum range of 715km, up from 605km in the current model.
The BYD Han family sold 12,780 units in January, the fifth consecutive month of sales exceeding 10,000.
Since its launch in July 2020 to the end of January, the Han family has accumulated sales of 170,001 units, according to data monitored by CnEVPost.
