Due to the increased number of Covid-19 cases in the Yangtze River Delta, Suzhou, the city where Nio Day 2021 is slated to be held, upgraded its outbreak control level, forcing Nio to scale back its annual event.

"At the request of the epidemic prevention authorities, we regret to inform you that Nio Day 2021 will need to scale back more than half of the number of people on site at the event to reduce the risk of the spread of the epidemic," Nio said in a statement posted on its app.

If users are willing to voluntarily forgo travel to Suzhou for Nio Day, Nio will reclaim Nio Day tickets for 3,000 credits each, the company said.

In Nio's system, 3,000 credits are equivalent to RMB 300 yuan, which can be used to shop at the Nio Life online mall.

If users still plan to go, Suzhou authorities may have temporary epidemic control requirements and restrictions, which do not rule out the possibility that visitors will not be able to enter the venue at that time, Nio said.

Nio Day 2021 will still be conducted live online, Nio said, adding that users are encouraged to watch the broadcast and participate in the interaction.

Nio plans to hold Nio Day 2021 on December 18 at the Olympic Sports Center in Suzhou, a city located about 100 kilometers west of Shanghai.

Nio usually holds its most important event of the year, Nio Day, at the end of each year or at the beginning of the following year, with the launch of new models. The last Nio Day was held on January 9 of this year, when Nio launched its first sedan, the ET7.

At this year's Nio Day event, it is expected to release a model including one called ET5 and possibly another model that's still in secrecy.

Earlier today, Nio released the first teaser image of the soon-to-be-announced new model, showing it equipped with a through-tail light design.

Other than that, Nio did not release any further information. It is not clear whether the model in the Nio teaser image is the ET5 or the unknown model.

Nio said on August 12 that it aims to deliver three products based on Nio Technology Platform 2.0 in 2022, including its flagship sedan ET7, which was announced earlier this year.
