The fourth model from Xpeng Motors will be officially unveiled at the Guangzhou Auto Show, positioning as a mid-size SUV with the X Robot Face family styling at the front, yiche.com said today, citing sources from the company.
The new car will be built on the same Edward platform as Xpeng's flagship sedan P7, which can support a wheelbase range of 2,800-3,100mm, meaning the new car will have a wheelbase of up to 3,100mm, the report said.
In addition to the two existing Smart EV platforms, David and Edward, Xpeng is planning to develop a new platform, the report said, without providing further details.
The model's expected price will be around RMB 300,000 ($47,000), with more advanced autonomous driving systems with LiDAR and support for XPILOT 4.0, the report said.
The 2021 Guangzhou Auto Show will open on November 19 and run through November 28.
There have been many spy shots of the new Xpeng SUV being released in recent months.
Early last month, a Weibo user claimed that the car, which is based on Xpeng's Edward platform like the P7 sedan, could be called Xpeng G9 and could go on sale in the fourth quarter of 2022.
The car's wheelbase is between 3,050-3,100mm, longer than the Nio ES8 and Li Auto's Li ONE. But the car may be less than 5 meters long and may be slightly shorter than the latter two, according to the blogger.
Its price may lie in the range of RMB 300,000 to 400,000, between the P7, which starts at RMB 229,900, and the P7 Wing edition, which starts at RMB 409,900, the blogger said.
