Dolphin, the first model of BYD's e platform 3.0 as well as the Ocean series, sold 3,000 units in September.

The Dolphin, the first model in BYD's e-platform 3.0 and Ocean series, appears to be enjoying initial success.

The all-electric compact car, which looks a bit like the Honda Fit, received 9,963 orders in October - the third month the model was available, data released by the company Tuesday showed.

BYD officially unveiled the Dolphin, the first product in its Ocean lineup, at the Chengdu Auto Show on August 29, with a subsidized price tag of RMB 93,800 ($14,660) - RMB 121,800.

Dolphin sold 1,755 units in August and 3,000 units in September, according to data previously released by BYD.

The model is available in four versions, with the lowest-priced version having a range of 301 kilometers. It has a battery capacity of 30.7 kWh and is priced at 93,800 yuan after subsidies.

The two versions in the middle of the price range both have a range of 405 km, a battery capacity of 44.9 kWh, and a post-subsidy price of RMB 103,800 and RMB 108,800 respectively.

The highest-priced version has a range of 401 km and a battery capacity of 44.9kWh, with a post-subsidy price of RMB 121,800.

The Dolphin is also the first model in BYD's Ocean lineup, using the ocean aesthetic design concept for the first time, and the first model to have BYD's new logo.

The e-platform 3.0 was unveiled by BYD at the Shanghai Auto Show on April 19 to create the next generation of high-performance smart electric vehicles. BYD says its key modules are smaller, lighter, more capable and consume less energy.

The model has a wheelbase of 2,700mm and a wheel length ratio of 66.3 percent, giving occupants the space of a B-class car, BYD said.

With Dolphin's production capacity climbing, BYD's EV model sales ratio is expected to further increase.
