Nio today announced a partnership with the Sanjiangyuan Ecological Protection Foundation to support the construction of the Sanjiangyuan National Park in northwestern China.

The company will provide a fleet of electric vehicles to help with ecological patrols here, and the Nio User Trust will join with the foundation to build ecological villages, according to the company.

Sanjiangyuan literally means the source of three rivers. It is home to the sources of the Yangtze, Yellow and Lancang Rivers and is located in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, with an average altitude of over 4,700 meters.

It maintains a pristine plateau and alpine ecosystem and is the land on which Tibetan antelopes, snow leopards, green velvet artemisia, snow lilies and other flora and fauna survive.

In October this year, Sanjiangyuan National Park was officially listed as one of the first national parks in China.

Nio User Trust plans to make a 5-year investment in the area to support work including ecovillage research bases and biodiversity conservation research.

This is Nio's latest effort in direct involvement in environmental protection.

On May 11, the company signed an agreement with Sansha City in Hainan Province to jointly promote clean energy development in the Xisha Islands, South China Sea.

The Islands are the largest archipelago in the South China Sea by land area and are under the jurisdiction of Sansha City. Under the agreement, Nio will provide Sansha City with a fleet of smart electric vehicles and invest in charging and storage facilities.

Based on the Islands' existing new energy facilities, the latest effort will form a clean energy chain here including solar, wind and tidal power generation, power battery storage, charging pile replenishment, and electric vehicle mobility.
