Alibaba launches AliOS brand with more investment in auto industry
Shanghai (ZXZC)-On September 27th, Alibaba, a Chinese e-commerce giant, announced it would upgrade its operating system strategy and introduced a new brand AliOS and a new slogan. The new operating system department will continually add investment in IoT (Internet of Things) and develop operating systems for vehicles, IoT terminal, IoT chip and industrial sectors. Besides, the company will integrate its YunOS mobile terminal service. YunOS, also called Aliyun OS, is the mobile operating system developed by Alibaba Group.
Alibaba began to develop core operating system in 2010 and entered into vehicle operating system in 2014. In July 2016, Alibaba and SAIC unveiled the first mass produced internet car in the world. The word Internet in the term "Internet car" has the same meaning as the word in "Internet of Things" where all things are connected. For example, your phone can be connected with your car.
During the past year, SAIC rolled out several models equipped Alibaba operating system, such as Roewe RX5, Roewe eRX5, Roewe ERX5, MG ZS and SAIC Maxus D90. The cumulative sales of RX5 last year was up to 230,000 units, indicating internet vehicles a new trend in the industry.
Hu Xiaoming, senior vice president of Alibaba Group and president of AliOS, said the group will continue to cultivate the business in the field of auto operating system. In order to speed the industry’s transformation to intelligence, Alibaba will work with more auto companies.
