Chinese social media and gaming giant Tencent has disclosed a patent involving vehicle communication that is expected to facilitate contact between unfamiliar car owners.

The patent was filed on April 13, 2016, and was made public on August 17, 2021.

The patent allows users to communicate with drivers of unfamiliar vehicles by identifying each other's license plate numbers to communicate with the server database and thus obtain the communication account of the other vehicle owner.

The patent can avoid the problem of not being able to communicate because the owner of the first vehicle does not have the contact information of the owner of the second vehicle, as shown in its abstract.

The patent belongs to the field of intelligent transportation and connected vehicles. The patent does not point out the specific reference of communication accounts, and is not limited to cell phone numbers, but also includes social accounts.

Tencent's earnings report on Wednesday showed it achieved revenue of RMB 138.3 billion in the second quarter, up 20 percent year-over-year, and net profit of RMB 34.039 billion, up 13 percent.

For the first half of 2021, it posted revenue of RMB273.56 billion, up 23 percent year-over-year, and a net profit of RMB 69.157 billion, up 17 percent year-over-year.

Tencent WeChat's latest monthly active accounts increased to 1.25 billion in the second quarter, while QQ's monthly active accounts on mobile terminals were 590 million, down 8.8 percent year-over-year.
