China's expressway service areas are often integrated facilities that offer services including gasoline, car repair, and food and beverage, and some have established themselves as tourist destinations.

Xpeng said 11 Chinese cities opened their first Xpeng supercharging stations in July, including Weihai, Pingxiang, Qionghai, Leshan, Qinhuangdao, Dongguan, Qingdao, Taizhou, Yancheng, Huai'an and Xuzhou.

By the end of July, Xpeng had 45 destination charging stations in China and 298 of its own. When added to the third-party charging stations it partners with, the number of charging stations providing free charging services to Xpeng owners reached 1,457.

As of Aug. 8, its local counterpart Nio had 352 battery swap stations, 235 Superchargers, 427 destination charging stations and access to more than 390,000 third-party charging piles in China.

Xpeng began a "free charging for life" policy for its customers on September 1 last year, which is available only to first-time owners and cannot be used for commercial operations.

Although Xpeng claims to offer "free charging for life," there is actually a cap on the number of benefits that owners can enjoy - 3,000 kWh per year.

As of August 1, Xpeng has reduced the 3,000 kWh per year offered to customers to 1,000 kWh per year.
