China's lithium-ion battery output exceeded 110 GWh in H1, up over 60% from a year earlier

China's lithium-ion battery output exceeded 110 gigawatt hours (GWh) in the first half of the year, up more than 60 percent year-over-year, according to data released Friday by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

The output of cathode material, anode material, diaphragm, and electrolyte were 450,000 tons, 350,000 tons, 3.4 billion square meters and 130,000 tons respectively, all up more than 130 percent, the data showed.

The total output value of the lithium-ion battery industry in the first half of the year exceeded RMB 240 billion ($37.1 billion), and total exports were RMB 74.3 billion, an increase of nearly 70 percent year-over-year.

The lithium-ion batteries mentioned here include those used in consumer electronic devices as well as power batteries used in new energy vehicles.

According to the data released by China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance in early July, from January to June, China's power battery production reached 74.7 GWh, up 217.5 percent year-over-year.

Among them, the cumulative output of ternary batteries reached 36.9GWh, accounting for 49.3 percent of the total output, an increase of 149.2 percent year-over-year. Lithium iron phosphate battery production reached 37.7GWh, accounting for 50.5 percent of the total output, an increase of 334.4 percent year-over-year.

From January to June, the cumulative sales of power batteries in China reached 58.2GWh, an increase of 173.6 percent year-over-year.

Among them, the cumulative sales of ternary batteries reached 27.2GWh, up 115.6 percent year-over-year. The cumulative sales of lithium iron phosphate batteries reached 30.8 GWh, an increase of 260.0 percent year-over-year.

From January to June, the total installed capacity of power batteries in China reached 52.5GWh, up 200.3 percent year-over-year.

Among them, the total installed base of ternary batteries reached 30.2GWh, accounting for 57.5 percent of the total installed base, up 139.0 percent year-over-year. The installed base of LFP batteries reached 22.2GWh, accounting for 42.3 percent of the total installed base, up 368.5 percent year-over-year.
