Horizon Robotics' AI chip with up to 128 TOPS computing power gets key certification
Li Auto's autonomous driving chip supplier Horizon Robotics has received SGS-TÜV ISO 26262 ASIL-B Ready functional safety product certification for its Journey 5 chip with up to 128 tera operations per second (TOPS) of AI computing power, paving the way for mass production.
The Chinese chip company said Monday that this means the Journey 5 chip can provide a secure protection solution for ADAS applications, meeting the functional safety development requirements of world-class OEMs and Tier 1.
Journey 5 is China's first vehicle-grade AI chip developed based on the ISO 26262 functional safety process, the company said.

Nine months after Horizon Robotics was certified to the ISO 26262:2018 functional safety process in September 2020, the functional safety architecture and specific design of the Journey 5 chip was successfully certified as an ISO 26262 ASIL-B Ready product.
The Journey 5 series is Horizon Robotics' upcoming full-scope, whole-vehicle intelligent central computing chip that integrates autonomous driving and intelligent interaction, with up to 128 TOPS of AI computing power on a single chip.
The Journey 5 series will include "Journey 5" and "Journey 5P" and will support 16 cameras with 96 TOPS and 128 TOPS of computational power and 20W and 35W of power consumption respectively.
The power consumption of traditional automotive electronics generally does not exceed 20W, too high system power consumption requires car companies to redesign the cooling system, causing stability risks, the company's founder and CTO Huang Chang previously said.
Horizon Robotics' planned "Journey 6" chip will have 400+ TOPs of computing power to support L4/L4+ autonomous driving.
"Journey 2" has already been used in more than 30 vehicles, including the Changan UNI-T, Chery eQ5, SAIC Zhiji Motor and Changan UNI-K, Horizon Robotics said.
The company said the global chip shortage will have little impact, and that mass production of Journey 3 will be announced in May and Journey 5 in the third quarter of next year.
