Geely’s half-year profit doubled to $649 million

August 16, 2017,ZXZC-Geely Automobile Holding Holdings Ltd released its interim performance report on Aug.16th. According to the data released, the company’s operation revenue reached  39.42 billion yuan (about $5.88 billion) with a significant increase of 118%; the net profit came to 4.34 billion yuan ($648.96 million), up 128% year on year.

In the first half year of 2017, Geely achieved a gross margin of 19.2% and its diluted earnings per share were 47.68 fen (0.4768 yuan), with a growth of 120%. Sales of the first six months jumped 89% to 530,627 units and the average price per vehicle increased 16 percent to 73,077 yuan.

In the announcement, Geely compared itself to a wolf-warrior self-owned brand, which has made a breakthrough over the fierce competition from joint venture brands. It said its operation revenue, profitability and brand premium ability had improved a lot. (Wolf Warriors is a popular movie in China at this moment.)

During the first half year in 2017, many Geely models have repeatedly achieved higher growth against an declining market. In the sport utility vehicle segment, the combined sales of Emgrand GS, Geely Boyue and Yuanjing SUV reached up to 233,482 units. The sales of Boyue in the first six months of this year raised 509% to 116,932 units. Besides, Geely sold 292,314 sedans in the first half year. The company said it succeeded to maintain a balanced development trend between sedan segment and SUV segment, which has the same market shares (5%) in China.

As to the new energy vehicle segment, Geely’s first NEV model, Emgrand EV, has become one of the top-sellers in China with the first half-year sales of 7,982 units.

Last month, Geely raised its 2017 sales target to 1.1 million vehicles, 10% higher than the earlier target. In the second half year, it will launch several models, including a new SUV model. Besides, the first model of its third brand Lynk & Co will go on sale in the last quarter.
