BYD wins order for 50 all-electric buses from Turin, Italy
Chinese electric car company BYD recently announced that it has won an order for 50 pure electric buses from the city of Turin, Italy. This is the largest ever tender for purely electric buses in the region, and the customer is BYD's long-time customer Turin Transit Group (GTT).
BYD also announced that it has signed a framework deal with GTT for the procurement of another 50 pure electric buses, which are scheduled to be delivered and put into operation within the next four years.
GTT mainly serves the Piedmont region in northern Italy, operating more than 800 buses and 200 trams with an annual capacity of more than 280 million passengers.
GTT recognizes BYD's zero-emission technology and has been a loyal customer since 2017, having purchased BYD buses three times.
In addition, BYD recently announced that it has joined hands with its UK bus manufacturer partner Alexander Dennis to deliver its fifth hundredth pure electric bus in the country to Go Ahead, an operator of Transport for London.
BYD's cumulative sales of electric buses in the UK surpassed 1,000 units, the company said.
The delivery is for a pure electric double-decker bus, and the entire fleet of 20 buses is now operating on London Bus Route 69, connecting Walthamstow with Canning Town in East London.
