China's April power battery installations at 8.4 GWh, down 7% from March
In April, China's power battery installations were 8.4 GWh, down about 7 percent from March and up 134 percent year-on-year, according to data released Wednesday by the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance.
In April, a total of 5.2 GWh of ternary batteries were installed, up 97.3 percent year-on-year and up 1.5 percent from March. Lithium iron phosphate batteries were installed in 3.2 GWh, up 244.5 percent year-on-year and down 17.6 percent from March.
From January to April, China's power battery installation volume was 31.6 GWh, up 241.1 percent year-on-year.
The installed base of ternary batteries in the first four months was 19.0 GWh, accounting for 60.0 percent of the total, up 173.4 percent year-on-year. Lithium iron phosphate battery installation volume accumulated 12.6 GWh, accounting for 39.8 percent of the total, up 455.9 percent year-on-year.
In April, the top 10 power battery companies had a total installed base of 7.8 GWh, together accounting for over 90 percent of the market share.
CATL remained in the first place, with an installed base of 3.82 GWh in April and a market share of 45.5 percent.
Notably, this is the first time CATL's market share has fallen below 50 percent this year, a new low since July last year.
BYD's installed base in April was 1.23 GWh, with a market share of 14.6 percent.

In terms of production, China's power battery output totaled 12.9 GWh in April, up 173.7 percent year-on-year and 14.6 percent from March.
Ternary battery production in April was 6.7 GWh, accounting for 51.9 percent of total production, up 134.3 percent year-on-year and up 15.1 percent from March.
Lithium iron phosphate battery production was 6.2 GWh, accounting for 47.9 percent of total production, up 235.4 percent year-on-year and up 13.7 percent from March.
From January to April, China's power battery production was 45.7 GWh, up 251.8 percent year-on-year. Among them, the production of ternary batteries was 24.5 GWh, accounting for 53.6 percent of the total output, up 185.8 percent year-on-year; the production of lithium iron phosphate batteries was 21.2 GWh, accounting for 46.3 percent of the total output, up 381.4 percent year-on-year.
