Li ONE tops insurance registrations among Chinese new energy SUVs in April, ahead of Model Y
Li ONE, the sole model of Chinese electric car company Li Auto, was the top insurance registrant in China's new energy SUV market in April, ahead of Tesla's Model Y, albeit by a slim margin.
The Li ONE had 5,522 insurance registrations in April, two units higher than the Model Y's 5,520, Li Auto showed in a graphic Wednesday, citing data from the China Automotive Technology and Research Center.
Li Auto released data earlier this month showing the company delivered 5,539 Li ONEs in April, up 13 percent from March and 111.3 percent from the same month last year.
The company saw its 50,000th delivery of the Li ONE in April, bringing the model's cumulative new vehicle deliveries to 51,715 by the end of April, 17 months after it began deliveries in December 2019.
Data released Tuesday by The China Passenger Car Association showed that Tesla China sold 25,845 vehicles in April, down 27 percent from 35,478 in March and up 611 percent from 3,635 in the same month last year.
In April, Tesla China exported a record 14,174 vehicles, the data showed.
The CPCA did not say whether the number of vehicles exported was included in Tesla China's April sales figures, but according to local media outlet Time News, the April sales figures include vehicles that were exported.
That means Tesla sold just 11,671 vehicles in China in April, a decline of nearly 50 percent from the January-March average of about 23,000 deliveries, Time News reported.
Notably, according to yicai.com, the Model Y production line at Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory had been shut down for two weeks in April to upgrade production line equipment, and sales fluctuated as a result.
This means that without the temporary production line shutdown, the Model Y would have seen the highest insurance registration in the Chinese new energy SUV market in April.
The Nio ES6 was third on the list at 3,302 units, and the Nio EC6 was fifth at 2,484 units.
Nio released data earlier this month showing it delivered 7,102 vehicles in April, down 2 percent from March and up 125.1 percent from the same month last year.
Nio delivered 1,523 ES8s, 3,163 ES6s, and 2,416 EC6s in April, the company said.
