As the May Day holiday in China approaches, Tesla is offering holiday benefits to owners.

The company announced Friday that owners will have free access to its Superchargers during the holiday.

To date, Tesla has built more than 790 Supercharging stations in China and has more than 6,200 Superchargers. It also has more than 700 destination charging stations and over 1,700 destination charging piles. These facilities cover more than 310 cities.

This year's May Day holiday runs from May 1 to May 5, when Chinese car owners can get free passage on the nation's highways.

Data released last week by the mapping app Gaode Map predicts that China's highway congestion during holidays will be the highest on record, with a year-on-year increase of more than 10 percent.

Tesla's move is expected to improve its perception among owners, who after all will be able to reduce their bills for holiday travel.

Tesla owners currently pay about RMB 2 yuan ($0.3) for 1kWh when charging, which varies slightly by region. A 75 kWh long-range Model 3, for example, will cost about RMB 150 for a full charge from zero.

In addition to allowing users to charge for free on the holiday, Tesla is also offering owners 45 days of free access to its Enhanced Autopilot (EAP) feature.

Tesla opened the EAP option in China on Feb. 5, and the upgrade price is RMB 32,000 ($4,943), half the price of FSD.

EAP adds five functions compared to Basic Autopilot (BAP), including auto-assisted navigation driving, auto-assisted lane changing, auto-parking, summoning, and smart summoning.

With the optional EAP on, users only need to turn the turn signal to the bottom and the vehicle can automatically change lanes.

EAP also adds intelligent summoning functions, which are convenient when parking and picking up the car on rainy days.

At the end of February, Tesla launched EAP limited-time free experience campaign, so that users who did not purchase this feature can try the feature for free for a week.

Tesla said today that the 45-day free EAP benefit is available to all customers who have not purchased EAP or FSD and whose hardware meets the requirements, and who get their vehicles by June 30, 2021.

The data push is expected to begin on April 30 to ensure that users have EAP access on the holiday.

If the user is using the EAP trial benefits, Tesla is extending the trial for a cumulative 45 days from the current trial deadline.

In addition, between May 1 and July 31, Tesla is also allowing users to purchase a new air conditioning filter & HEPA filter at 25% off the price.
