Huawei denies seeking control of Arcfox and Jinkang
In response to reports earlier today that Huawei is seeking to take control of Arcfox of BAIC's BluePark New Energy and Chongqing Sokon's Jinkang New Energy, Huawei said "there is no such matter."
Cls.cn quoted an unnamed Huawei source as saying that Huawei is providing full-stack smart car solutions under the Huawei Inside model in its partnership with Arcfox. Under the model, the two companies launched their first model, the Alpha S, which has been unveiled at the Shanghai auto show, with Huawei's role as a component supplier.
Reuters reported earlier today, citing people familiar with the matter, that Huawei seeks to take control of Arcfox, which recently launched its Alpha S model with the Huawei Inside system.
But BAIC prefers Huawei only as a minority shareholder in Arcfox, the report said.
The report also said Huawei is in talks with Chongqing Sokon to acquire a controlling stake in the latter's Chongqing Jinkang New Energy Automobile.
The move would allow Huawei to produce smart cars with its own nameplate. Jinkang courts US electric car brand Seres, formerly known as SF Motors, as its main asset.
Last week, at Huawei's global flagship store on Nanjing Road in Shanghai, Richard Yu, managing director and CEO of Huawei's consumer business, announced that it would start selling cars in the flagship store, with the first model being the Seres SF5.
In response, yicai.com quoted Huawei sources as saying, "There is no such thing."
Sokon sources quoted by nbd.com.cn said the cooperation with Huawei was business-related, explicitly denying any holding or participation in Jinkang.
