Huawei, which recently demonstrated amazing autonomous driving technology, could be a supplier for luxury carmaker Audi.

Chinese automotive industry media chedongxi.com cited Michael Hofmann, executive vice president of R&D at Audi China, as saying that Huawei could be an autonomous driving partner for Audi. He did not give any further details.

The report said Su Qing, president of Huawei's smart driving product line, had recently said that a major European brand had signed up with Huawei to equip the latter's domestic models with Huawei's ADS system.

Su did not specify which specific car company, but the outlet said it saw that Huawei was using the Audi A6 model to test the ADS system.

Considering that Huawei mostly uses target customers' vehicles in its ADS tests, it is inferred that Audi may be the "major European brand " Su mentioned.

On April 17, Arcfox, a dedicated EV brand by BAIC, unveiled the highly anticipated Arcfox α-S model with a starting price of 251,900 yuan ($38,600).

Compared to the regular model, the most interesting part of the car is the version with "Huawei Inside". With the release of the Arcfox α-S, Huawei's technology is also available in production models for the first time.

This version starts at RMB 388,900 and the premium version is priced at RMB 429,900. They are expected to be delivered in November and December this year.

This lower-priced version allows for highway autopilot, and the highest-spec version has higher-order autonomous driving and valet parking capabilities in urban areas.

This capability has been demonstrated in a video that went viral on April 16.

The video shows the field test vehicle driving relatively smoothly and achieving urban commuter-free autonomous driving in situations such as starting and stopping at traffic lights, making unprotected left turns, avoiding vehicles at intersections, yielding to pedestrians, and changing lanes.

The video shows a vehicle equipped with a safety officer driving smoothly across a road where pedestrians, electric vehicles and cars are crossing back and forth.

In addition to automatically detecting pedestrian vehicles in front of the vehicle and emitting a warning tone to the interior, the vehicle is also alerted by a red warning image on the center console.

On a road full of parked vehicles on both sides, the car will automatically avoid vehicles in the opposite direction, and will also leave some space for non-motorized vehicles and pedestrians on the right side to pass when meeting.

In the view of CICC, a top Chinese investment bank, Arcfox α-S, the first product from Huawei HI, already has market-leading product power and exceeds expectations in terms of autonomous driving.

"We see subsequent expansion of new models from Huawei and partners in terms of market space and competitiveness along with the declining cost of smart hardware," CICC said in a report on Tuesday.
