SAIC's R brand unveiled its LiDAR-equipped electric SUV concept and corresponding technology brand, RTECH, on March 18.

The vehicle is equipped with a smart driving solution called PPCEM, which includes six sensors including LiDAR and 4D imaging millimeter-wave radar.

The LiDAR sensor located on top of the windshield is from Luminar and uses a 1550nm laser source with a laser beam of over 300 lines and a detection range of up to 500 meters.

A video shows the sensor senses whether the car in front of it is opening its door, allowing the car to avoid it.

The self-driving chip uses NVIDIA's Orin chip, with an arithmetic power of 500 to 1000 TOPS.

RTECH laid out fast and slow charging and battery swap and is also exploring the technology of charging cars with robots.

SAIC R says its goal is to allow users to find a charging post for R cars within 1 kilometer.

RTECH will support a two-minute fast battery swap, and users will have the option of buying the vehicle and renting the battery.

The smart cockpit hardware can be plugged and unplugged like a building block, SAIC R said, adding that the company can guarantee that the battery cells will not spontaneously combust.
