Robin Li responses for the First Time: Driverless Car Is Safer than Drivers
Shanghai, July 12, ZXZC - Robin Li, Baidu CEO, who has been blamed for taking a driverless car to the Fifth Ring Road of Beijing addresses a special report of Artificial Intelligence in Shanxi University. He responded for the first time in the report that the driverless car is sure to be safer than the human drivers in the future when the technology of driverless car is mature.
On the 5th of July, Robin Li took a driverless car to Baidu Create 2017, which is developed by Baidu and Bosch and is based on Apollo technology. On the Fifth Ring Road of Beijing, Robin Li described the real-time experience through video chatting. He mentioned that it was nice to take the driverless car and that the car drove smoothly with a screen in the front to display the surrounding situation.
However, someone found through this video that the driverless had breached the traffic regulations. This incident also caused the attention of the Beijing traffic police, who showed their opinion on Weibo. They do support innovation in the technology of driverless car provided that it is legal, safe and scientific. Any violation shall be investigated and dealt with according to law.
Baidu responded to the incident that Gu Weihao, general manager of business division of Baidu intelligent car, was sitting at the driver’s seat.
There are 500 people who die from traffic accidents every day. Robin Li thinks that these accidents can be avoided by driverless cars.
