Explosion hits CATL's joint venture
An explosion occurred around 10 a.m. January 20 at a factory in Qujing, Yunnan province, which belongs to a CATL joint venture, although the lithium-ion battery maker said it was not involved in the production and operation of the factory.
The company is Qujing Lintie Technology Co., a subsidiary of Shenzhen Dynanonic Co, in which CATL holds a 40 percent stake and Dynanonic a 60 percent stake.
Dynanonic said Wednesday evening that the main product of the holding subsidiary where the explosion occurred is lithium iron phosphate, which is in the trial production stage.
The accident caused 12 people to be injured, and the injured have been sent to the hospital for treatment, the company said, adding that the production and operation of Dynanonic and other subsidiaries are normal.
CATL, for its part, said, "We are only participating in the stock and are not involved in production operations."
This is the latest accident at a company in which CATL holds a stake. on January 7, 2021, at approximately 18:12, an explosion occurred in a workshop at Hunan Brunp Recycling Technology Co., Ltd. a subsidiary of CATL, according to a statement from the Ningxiang Municipal Government.
The accident has resulted in one death, six serious injuries, and 14 minor injuries.
Brunp, whose main product is ternary precursor, is currently the largest national high-tech enterprise in China for the recycling and treatment of used lithium batteries and the production of high-end battery materials.
The plant is located in Ningxiang High-tech Zone, Changsha, Hunan Province, with an investment of 200 million RMB.
