Huawei will use ternary lithium-ion batteries as the new energy technology direction for smart cars, chinastarmarket.cn reported, adding that data on the ratio of nickel-cobalt-aluminum or nickel-cobalt-manganese in the cathode material is not yet clear.

If the report is true, then Huawei's choice of power battery technology direction for smart car components is the same as that of Tesla.

According to the report, on November 25, Huawei Intelligent Automotive Solutions BU and Consumer Business BG IRB completed their business restructuring, with their business management under the control of Huawei's Consumer Business Management Committee.

The Consumer Business BG IRB was renamed the Smartphone and Smart Car Components IRB after the reorganization and is responsible for investment decisions and portfolio management of the smart car components business.

On November 14, on CCTV, Changan Chairman Zhu Huarong said that Changan had partnered with Huawei and CATL to build a high-end smart car brand.

On June 22, 2012, Changan said in response to an investor's question: "The company's new energy vehicle battery mainly uses ternary lithium batteries, and the main suppliers are Zhejiang Wanxiang, LG, CATL, etc.".

The above report said that Huawei's cooperation with Changan is true. Although Huawei recently reiterated that it will not build the whole car, that does not affect its choice of ternary lithium batteries as the power battery technology direction of its smart car parts, the report said.

It is still unclear whether Huawei will develop a power battery management system.
