Tesla exec says won't rule out opening up Tesla's charging stations to other car brands
Currently, Tesla's charging stations can only charge Tesla's cars, and the company has not ruled out the possibility of opening them to other brands of electric vehicles in the future, said Grace Tao, Tesla's global vice president, during an online communication event held by Tesla on December 1.
However, Tao also said that the opening of the charging stations is contingent on the cars using Tesla's charging stations undergoing technical verification by Tesla to ensure safety and charging experience.
Tao did not reveal the specific opening time, but only said it would be "when the time is right" because the construction of Tesla's charging stations is still struggling to meet the charging demand of Tesla vehicles.
In the future, as charging time shortens and efficiency improves, the charging stations will have more capacity to support charging of other brands of cars, she said.
Previously, Tesla said it plans to invest 42 million yuan in Shanghai to build a supercharger factory that integrates research and development and production. The
The project is scheduled to begin production in the first quarter of 2021, with an initial production capacity of 10,000 superchargers per year, mainly V3 superchargers.
Tesla's 500th Supercharger station in Chinese mainland has gone online in Shanghai, the company said on its official Weibo page on November 30.
At present, Tesla's Supercharger stations have covered 61 cities in China.
According to Tesla's latest weekly report, Tesla has more than 20,000 Superchargers around the world and will build nearly 650 Superchargers in China by the end of 2020.
