With the proposal of “The Belt and Road”, BAIC Motor speeds up its international layout strategy. According to the plan, BAIC will accelerate its layout in South Africa, Southeast Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, striving to complete the international business by the year of 2020, saying, “656 target”: six key projects, five major market clusters and 600,000 vehicles.

BAIC has set export bases in Yunnan, Chongqing, Hebei, Guangzhou, Shandong and other places. At the same time, BAIC has set up joint ventures in Russia, India and other countries to exploit its overseas markets.

Located in Sino-Burmese border area, BAIC Yunnan Ruili Motor Base is the first production base open to the abroad since the launch of international strategy. It was completed by the end of 2016. In 2017, Ruili as the base, Burmese market as the breakthrough point, BAIC will seize the market by differentiated products and featured services.

South Africa is an important node of Maritime Silk Road as well as an important base of BAIC's international strategy. In August 2016, BAIC Group's first overseas vehicle manufacturing plant - BAIC South Africa plant- broke ground. On March 25, 2017, BAIC South Africa Industrial Park project was signed in Cape Town.

According to Xu Heyi, BAIC will set up a joint venture in Iran to achieve localized assembly in this year. By 2020, BAIC Group will have completed its “656 target”: six key projects, five major market clusters and 600,000 vehicles. At the same time, they put forward the plan of focusing on market, integrated management, and innovative system, which requires double annual overseas sales during the thirteenth Five-Year Plan. Besides, SAIC, GAC, Chery and other enterprises have also accelerated their pace of international layout, which brings serious challenges to BAIC.
