Last night, Changan Auto released its production and sales volume in May. Data shows that its sales volume reaches 196,419 units with a monthly growth of 21.35% and year-to-year decline of 5.34%. Sales volumes of Changan buses and passenger vehicles reach 107,058 units and 70,356 units, growing 21.4% and 39.8% with the previous month respectively.

Similar to SUV market, cars and MPVs also show negative year-to-year growths and positive monthly growths. Eado series products sell 5,519 units, declining 48% year-to-year on the basis of 10,590 units. Alsvin series products show 49% year-to-year decline of 4,305 units in April. MPV models Honor and Auchan also show large sales declines.

Sales volume of Changan Ford declines 20.44% in April and grows 16.84% in May with the number of 59,724 units, benefited by the good performance of New Mondeo and Kuga. But other joint-venture brands such as Changan Mazda, Changan Suzuki and Changan PSA all show sluggish performances.

Considering of Changan’s overall weak performance, Changan Auto will burden some pressure in accomplishing its 2017 annual target. But Changan Auto started a wide range of price cuts at the end of May, covering models including CS15, CS35, CS75, New Eado, New Eado XT, Alsvin V3 and Alsvin V7. It still waits to be seen in the following months whether the measure will save the slumping sales volumes.
