Do Chinese EV firms need to be scared after Tesla cuts prices?
You should have seen the China-made Model3 offer that Tesla released. The standard range upgrade sells for only 271,550 after subsidies! If you don't know why the good old Tesla has started cutting prices again?
Let me take you through a brief review of what happened before Tesla decided on the deal?
Here's how things went roughly.
On April 23, China issued a policy of adjusting new energy subsidies, that is, the intensity of subsidies has decreased. There is no longer a subsidy for cars priced above 300,000 before the subsidy, and the coefficient of the subsidy has been adjusted, with a small slump in the amount of the subsidy.
Things were hilarious after that. Tesla, for its part, has received messages that it needs to subsidize the price difference itself because of policy implications. At the same time, other new energy bigwigs have taken to Weibo to take a stand. The gourd-eating crowd was watching a fire.
And it was just after this New Deal was introduced. A spoiler is born again, and that's the launch of the landmark Xpeng P7, a pure electric coupe from China. And five of the seven models in the entire lineup are priced under 300,000 after subsidies.
So according to this series of combined factors continue to extrapolate, everyone agrees that as the leading company in new energy vehicles.
If Tesla doesn't do anything...
Seems unlikely.
So later on, this little May Day holiday Tesla could be making a big move was all over our news channels.
So how much did the Model3 actually drop?
The standard range-upgrade Model3 is priced at 291,800 after the price cut and 271,550 after the subsidy, the first time in history that the guide price has really dropped into 300,000.
Looking at it today, the official price goes into the 300,000 range, just over 30,000 cheaper for Tesla, but the subsidy can go up to about "20,000".
When the news came out, the students thought that on the one hand, the domestic car was going to be angry, on the other hand... You know, this change seems relatively sudden...
We think back to the fuel car enterprise about 300,000 yuan or so models in recent years the terminal concessions do not move to give 50,000 to 60,000 yuan of concessions, Tesla just to the entry version of the model price cut 30,000 yuan should not be a big move for it itself, after all, all rise and fall so much back....
But for the whole field of new energy vehicles at the moment... We think it does have a significant impact, as a single stone falling into the lake can cause a thousand ripples across the lake, not to mention that it's a very hard stone.
So what is the state of Tesla itself right now? In fact, at the same time that Tesla announced its price reduction teaser yesterday, it also posted another earnings overview article on its official Twitter feed.
What the broad earnings report suggests is that Tesla is operating well and turning a profit with good potential.
These two news, yesterday the domestic A-share Tesla concept board directly jumped up a bit, the relevant concept shares also have a number of halt.
So in the midst of a global epidemic, things seem to be looking up for Tesla.
In fact, Tesla's domestic sales did not suffer much during the epidemic, which is a very strong contrast when you look at the other car companies and the industry-wide data that was hit hard.
On the one hand, domestic policy has been adjusted, and on the other hand, Tesla seems to be well-fed through its own good operational capabilities. What's next? Continue to push market share without breaking new ground?
But the price reduction is a price reduction, is it really good for users? It also depends on whether the vehicle's configuration has changed. After all, everyone likes to mark up without a markup, or a great price drop.
The price reduction is obviously not going to be liked. But today Tesla just released the pricing information, and it's not yet clear if the specific configuration has changed.
That means Autopilot autopilot and OTA over-the-air software upgrades are in.
Tesla prices used to be a bit high and cold, and the people who could afford it were not just the average white-collar elite, they had to be boss-level people.
You should know that back then, when gasoline cars were running all over the place, electric cars were bought as toys to experience.
Now that Tesla has a cheap car, and with the standard range upgrades that have been reduced in price today, there's no longer mileage anxiety for use in the city if one's own parking space is conditioned to have a supercharging stake installed.
In fact, even in a fueled car, a significant proportion of car owners rarely do self-driving activities with a mileage of around 1000km.
What are the competitors after the price reduction?
So does the Model3's reduced price range still have a rival in the electric car space?
There are still potential young opponents if the hard way is to find them. For example, the Xpeng P7 rear-drive long-range range has a subsidized price range of 229,900-276,900 for a total of six models, meaning that all but the four-wheel-drive high-performance version should continue to be eligible for the newly adjusted new energy subsidy. And the P7's claimed range looks a little longer.
But the Xpeng P7 may not be able to shake the Tesla Model3's current market position for a while either. At least for Tesla, although there are such and such shortcomings in terms of workmanship, the strength in core technology is still in the leading position in the industry. And the Xpeng P7 still needs to go through a wave of the market to know how it will really perform.
A price cut for a branded model that is highly regarded and can lead the industry is certainly good for consumers. But for the super strong competitors, domestic new energy vehicle enterprises in addition to panic, the most critical thing now is to reflect on their own cost problems, to create more advanced technology and stable, more cost-effective models.
Be aware that Tesla was born without a reference object. But for the new domestic new energy vehicle enterprises, this is a real "lesson from the previous car".
So the Tesla is all 271,550, do you guys have your heart set on it?
