Gumpert unveils world's first methanol-powered supercar with 500-mile range
Gumpert introduced the first version of its production car, the Nathalie Supercar, which relies on an electric motor supported by a methanol fuel cell.
The Gumpert Nathalie is the brainchild of Roland Gumpert, who once ran the Audi Sport division.
The Nathalie Supercar is equipped with a 5-kW methanol fuel cell, which can provide 15 kW of continuous power to a 400 kW (536 hp) electric engine.
It can provide a cruising range of over 500 miles, a "refuel" time of only 3 minutes, and an acceleration time of 0-60 miles in 2.5 seconds.
In response to Nathalie's methanol fuel, Gumpert plans to launch "overnight delivery services" in markets such as Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. It will also support the development of supply chains in North America and the Middle East to avoid fuel acquisition issues.
The first version of Nathalie is now available for pre-order. Delivery will start in the second half of next year. The minimum price of the car is 407,000 Euros and it will be limited to 500 cars.
